Parliament is where I bring the voices of Vancouver East constituents to government and fight for real action and legislative change. I do this through debating and voting on legislation in the chamber, as well as attend committee meetings where Members of Parliament examine, discuss, and debate issues in greater depth and details.

Parliament Video: Jenny in the House: Bill C-83 and the constitutionality of solitary confinement

During the February 21, 2019 report stage debate on Bill C-83, Jenny asked questions about solitary confinement, or as it is sometimes called, "administrative segregation", in correctional facilities. The bill still allows for up to 20 (instead of the current 22 to 23 hours) of isolation and segregation, but BC Supreme court and the Ontario Superior Court have both ruled that this kind of solitary confinement is not constitutional:

During the February 21, 2019 report stage debate on Bill C-83, I asked questions about addressing the potentially damaging mental health impacts of solitary confinement, or "administrative segregation", with respect to Bill C-83:

The NDP strongly support recognizing, preserving, and promoting Indigenous Languages in Canada. While much work remains to be done, the NDP support Bill C-91, and hope the government is willing to work collaboratively to strengthen the Bill during Committee study. One thing that is missing in the Bill is the recognition of the impacts of the 60's Scoop on Indigenous people and access to their languages:

On February 5, 2019 I followed up on my questions to the government regarding the Minister of Canadian Heritage suggesting that Systemic Racism did not exist in Canada.

Given that February is Black History Month, I had hoped the Minister would take the opportunity to apologize for his comments and lay out his pathway moving forward regarding Canada's Anti-Racism Action Plan:

On February 5, 2019 Jenny followed up on my questions to the government regarding the Minister of Canadian Heritage suggesting that Systemic Racism did not exist in Canada. On February 5, 1.5 billion people worldwide celebrate the lunar new year. Across the country, events are held to ring in the Year of the Pig. This past weekend I celebrated with the Korean community with food, song and dance. The Vietnamese community, which is vibrant from Vancouver to Toronto to Montreal, cherishes the values of respect for human rights and the environment and began its celebration with the honouring of the ancestors:
